2017 Legislative Priorities

The CPHA Advocacy Committee has identified 3 primary area of focus addressing public health concerns:

  • Public Health Infrastructure - Strengthen the public health infrastructure within Connecticut by vigilantly maintaining and actively building resources needed to effectively meet the public health needs of all state residents.
  • Health Equity - Promote health equity in Connecticut by:
    • Enhancing the physical, social and economic environment of all Connecticut residents to support freedom from discrimination; access to a quality and appropriate education that develops marketable skills; employment opportunities at livable incomes; decent and affordable housing; access to affordable, health foods; opportunities for exercise; access to nature; and strong social and community supports
    • Supporting quality, affordable, and culturally appropriate health care
    • Strengthening the ability of Connecticut residents to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services so that they can make appropriate health decisions
  • Environmental Health - Promote health for all Connecticut residents through minimizing exposures to toxins and waste; maintaining and improving water and outdoor air quality; and protecting against indoor health hazards
  • Prevention

The Advocacy Committee also supports the efforts of other organizations to address additional public health concerns, including promoting screening programs and awareness efforts that will contribute to the reduction in disease prevalence in Connecticut.
