The Beth Weinstein Award

CPHA has added the Beth Weinstein award in honor of Beth Weinstein and is honored to make 2019 the first year to award it!

The Weinstein Award is bestowed on an individual working in, or on behalf of, a local or state government   agency who has demonstrated   continued excellence, partnership, promise, or  accomplishment, and/or dedication to the advancement of public health. An individual recognized   with this award may work directly in public health or with a cross-sector partnership entity. This award is named in honor of Beth Weinstein, MPH,   who served Connecticut with the highest distinction as the CT Department of Public Health (DPH) AIDS Division Director, Preventable Diseases   Director, and Family Health Director for many years. As a consummate public health professional, and a model practitioner of civil service, Beth set an example of excellence collaborating with mutual respect with public policy makers, government agency staff at the local state and federal levels, members of the media, non-governmental organizations, and the general public.

Pat has demonstrated her commitment through many years of hard work, and she still shines brightly as a strong and energetic advocate for public health.  She demonstrates compassion for those at risk for or living with disease, and leads government’s efforts to help them, because it is right, even when it is hard and not popular.”

Representative Patricia Dillon is a Deputy Majority Leader of the Connecticut House of Representatives and serves on the Appropriations, Environment and Judiciary committees. Before coming to the General Assembly, Pat served on New Haven's Board of Aldermen and was a co-founder and director of New Haven's battered women’s shelter.

As a state legislator, Pat shaped much of Connecticut's AIDS policy, family violence policy, injury prevention policy, school based health centers, addiction and mental health policy, and has been a consistent advocate for the disabled. She has been honored for setting up the first WIC produce nutrition program, authored legislation to identify injury in our emergency rooms, and established an initiative for the behavioral health needs of returning National Guard and reserves families.

Join CPHA as we celebrate Representative Pat Dillon’s accomplishments and advancement of public health in Connecticut. For more information, please visit CPHA’s event webpage.
