About

Join the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from August 20-23, 2018 for the next Public Health Informatics Conference, Connecting Systems and People to Improve Population Health. The Conference considers ‘population health‘ to broadly mean “the health outcomes of a group of individuals, including the distribution of such outcomes within the group.” However, we also acknowledge that definitions of ‘population’ – and therefore ‘population health’ – vary by sectors and the collective individuals they serve. Recognizing that these sectors are critical components of the public health system, the conference welcomes engagement and perspectives from all sectors on how to collaboratively and comprehensively achieve better health outcomes for those whom they serve.

2018 PHI Conference Learning Objectives

After attending this year’s PHI Conference, attendees will be well prepared to:

  1. Describe at least one current barrier or facilitator to leveraging electronic information for population health;
  2. Describe at least one approach, challenge, or success to enabling or enhancing electronic information exchange
  3. Provide at least one example of how connected information systems or electronic information exchange have impacted efforts to improve population health
  4. Identify at least one stakeholder to engage in developing new or strengthening existing partnerships
  5. Identify at least one new or innovative technology, strategy, or use case that exemplifies the successful application of public health informatics and population health improvement;
  6. Develop at least one new or enhance one existing leadership, management, communication, or technical skill or approach

Conference History

Since 2003, the conference has provided a premier venue for groundbreaking discussions and opportunities to address the science of public health informatics, evolving public health systems, and public health’s role in our Nation’s expanding health information technology (IT) infrastructure. Held biennally, the conference aims to provide a forum for new and seasoned public health, healthcare, and information technology professionals to exchange experiences, ideas, and strategies about public health informatics that are paramount to the advancement of public health practice and health equity. Attendees include beginning, intermediate, and advanced professionals working in public health (local, state, federal, and international), research, business, and healthcare organizations. The Public Health Informatics Conference delivers opportunities to connect with colleagues, share new research, and discover how to navigate the increasingly connected public health enterprise.

With the rapid implementation of global healthcare IT initiatives and accelerated developments, there is no better time than now to learn about and invest in public health informatics.
